GCL Enable Discharge of Another Contaminated Land Planning Condition in Plymouth
Ground Consultants Limited were recently involved in a Phase 2 Ground Investigation for a proposed residential development in Plymouth.
It is proposed to develop the small site in Plymouth with 2 residential dwellings, and Ground Consultants Limited were approached to discharge the contaminated land condition as part of the planning application. A Phase 1 Desk Study (contaminated land report), was completed by a third party and identified potential contamination risks from naturally occurring arsenic and lead, as well as hydrocarbons from historic land use.
On the instruction of the developer, Ground Consultants limited planned and executed a comprehensive ground investigation with the aim of refining the conceptual site model. The investigation used trial pitting as the means of obtaining samples, and the site works were supervised by one of our qualified ground engineers.
Trial pits were logged in accordance with BS5930 and samples were dispatched to I2 analytical laboratories (https://www.i2analytical.com/).
Following receipt of the laboratory results, our team of environmental consultants set to work generating a Generic Quantitative Risk Assessment (GQRA). Recommendations were made regarding encapsulating and/or removing residual contamination, allowing discharge of the relevant planning condition and thus the development to progress.
